چکیده

Continuous four hours EEG (electroencephalogram) recordings and its power spectrum analysis using fast fourier transform (FFT) in urethane anesthetized male Charles Foster rats were performed in two groups: open brain injury and p-CPA (para-Chlorophenylalanine) pretreated before brain injury, respectively, and compared with the EEG power spectrum of control rats. The EEG power spectrum analysis showed that there was a faster recovery in p-CPA pretreated group than the injury group of rats. The results showed that the p-CPA (a 5-HT inhibitor) prevents pathological changes following brain injury. Simultaneously, the inference can also be drawn that EEG power spectrum analysis is a useful technique for monitoring the brain injury and its recovery following pharmacological treatments. Iran. Depletion of Serotonin Synthesis with p-CPA Pretreatment Alters EEG in Urethane Anesthetized Rats under Whole Body Hyperthermia

Serotonin is believed as an important factor in brain function. The role of serotonin in cerebral psycho-patho-physiology has already been well established. However, the function of serotonin antagonist in anesthetized subjects under hyperthermia has not been studied properly. Methods: Experiments were performed in three groups of urethane-anesthetized rats, such as: (i) control group, (ii) wh...

The effects of locus coeruleus electrical stimulation on brain waves of morphine dependent rats

Introduction: Opiates cause dependency via affect on central nervous system. Locus coeruleus nucleus is a main group of noradrenergic neurons in the brain that plays an important role in the expression of opioid withdrawal signs. During opioid withdrawal, brain waves change in addition to physical and behavioral signs. In this study, we examined the effects of locus coeruleus electrical sti...

Effects of methamphetamine use on quantitative EEG characters in an Iranian population

Introduction: Methamphetamine consumption is associated with cognitive and neuropsychological damage. Determining the effect of this substance on the activities and characteristics of the human brain can lead to the prevention and treatment of complications caused by abuse. There are diverse chemical formulas in Iran with unknown properties. Moreover, few studies have focused on electrophysiolo...
